M149-21 Sullivans Cove – Prohibited Area

Mariners are advised that fireworks will be deployed from a dinghy in Sullivans Cove in position Latitude 42° 53.083’S Longitude 147° 20.533’E on the following dates and times as part of Dark MOFO.

  • Tuesday, 15 June 2021 (rehearsal without fireworks)
  • Wednesday, 16 June 2021 – 1900 hours (1 minute)
  • Thursday, 17 June 2021 – 1800 hours (1 minute)
  • Friday, 18 June 2021 – 1800 hours (1 minute)
  • Saturday, 19 June 2021 – 1800 hours (1 minute)
  • Sunday, 20 June 2021 – 1800 hours (1 minute)
  • Monday, 21 June 2021 – 1800 hours (7 minutes)

A prohibited area has been declared within a 300-metre radius of the dinghy during deployment of the fireworks.  Vessels should delay exiting and entering Sullivans Cove during the daily one minute ceremonies leading up to Sunday, 20 June 2021 and the seven minute ceremony on Monday, 21 June 2021.

Regulation 71 (3) of the Marine and Safety (Pilotage and Navigation) Regulations 2017 determines that MAST may declare a specified area surrounding any vessel navigating, moored or at anchor to be a prohibited area for other vessels or persons. A police officer may intercept and remove to a place of safety any vessel or person in a prohibited area.
