Recreational boats with a motor of 4 hp or more and personal water craft must be registered.
Registration
When you buy a motor boat which is currently registered in Tasmania, you are required to change the ownership into your name within 14 days from the date of purchase.
In Tasmania, if you own a recreational boat with a motor of 4hp or more, or operate a personal water craft (PWC), you’re required to register it with MAST before heading out on the water. Registration helps ensure vessels are identifiable in an emergency and supports safer waterways. Whether you’re launching a new vessel, transferring ownership, or renewing an existing registration, this page will guide you through what you need, how to apply, and the responsibilities that come with operating a registered boat or PWC.
You can now check your vessel registration online using the form below.
