The 30-second challenge involves a quick check of key boating safety gear to make sure each item is in working order and/or in one easy-reach place, ready to use. 1) Life jacket – put it on 2) Flares 3) Waterproof radio 4) Fire extinguisher 5) EPIRB – make sure it is ready to deploy 6) Radio – make sure it is working by making a dummy mayday call.
