M285-25 Port of Launceston – Minimum Declared Depths and Maximum Operating Drafts
Following recent mariner reports and hydrographic surveys, the declared depths listed below are now applicable for calculating the maximum operational drafts of commercial vessels operating under pilotage or by a Pilot Exempt Master when transiting to and from all berths on the River Tamar between the Batman Bridge and Kings Bridge.
Note: all depths refer to a Chart Datum of Zero tide.
- Rosevears to Beacon No. 7
Vessels must maintain a minimum Under Keel Clearance (UKC) of 1.6 metres at all times. - Beacon No. 7 to Kings Wharf
Vessels must not exceed a maximum draft of 5.0 metres and must maintain a minimum static UKC of 0.5 metres, as determined by the observed tide on the day. Drafts must not exceed the limits set out in the accompanying table.
Given the nature of the vessels transiting the area and the proximity of a number of navigational hazards in the area, the following table is to be used for reference in calculating the required tide height for a vessels given draft to safely transit the section of the river.
Allowance must be made for any difference in predicted and observed tide heights and also any barometric pressure anomalies which may affect tide heights in the Upper Reaches.
