Also, ensure you test your electric bilge pump on a regular basis and keep your bilge clean – they can easily become clogged with debris floating in the bilge.

• As a safety item, a bucket is useful for both bailing water out and fighting fires
• In an emergency the bucket can be used as a sea anchor

MAST recommends if your boat is kept in a marina or on a mooring, that your bilge pump is fitted with a float switch.

Don’t rely on the bucket with the fish in it!
